The first satellite to use the Internet
On January 12, 2003 CHIPSat was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. SpaceDev built CHIPSat on a contract from UC Berkeley and CHIPSat was the first satellite to use the Internet as it's primary means of communication. After over four years, CHIPSat is still providing science data on orbit - more than three years past its original mission specification.
